For general education only
The articles on The Daily Topic Hub are written to inform and to spark curiosity about English idioms, language and the everyday world. They are for general educational purposes only. Nothing on this site is professional advice of any kind, including medical, psychological, legal or financial advice. If you need advice about your own situation, please talk to a qualified professional.
About accuracy and word origins
I research every article carefully and list my sources at the end of each post. Even so, the history of many idioms is uncertain. Some origins are well documented, while others are based on scholarly guesses or popular stories that cannot be proven. When experts disagree, I try to say so. If you find a mistake, or a source that tells the story differently, please let me know. I am happy to correct it.
Language also changes over time and from place to place. Explanations of how an idiom is used today describe common usage, mostly in American English, and may not match every region or situation.
Learning materials
The example sentences, dialogues and practice exercises on this site are written for learners and teachers. You are welcome to use them for your own study or in your own classroom, with a link back to the original article. Please do not republish whole articles or sell the materials without permission.
External links
Articles link to dictionaries, books, research papers and other websites so that readers can check sources and learn more. I do not control those sites and am not responsible for their content, accuracy or privacy practices. A link does not mean I endorse everything on that site.
Advertising
This site may display advertisements, including ads served by Google AdSense. Ads are selected by the ad network, not by me, and showing an ad does not mean I recommend the product or service. Advertising does not influence what I write. If I ever use affiliate links or receive anything in exchange for a review, I will say so clearly in that article. See the Privacy Policy for how advertising cookies work.
Translations
Some articles are also available in other languages. The English version is always the original, so if a translation ever differs from it, the English version is the one to follow.
